About MEDes

The MEDes is a unique network of seven leading European design schools. During the five year programme, students are integrated into three design education systems and join a strong international community. These diverse experiences provide them with different approaches to design, multi-national perspectives and sensitivity to cultural differences. The MEDes course encourages and enables students to develop their creativity and imagination, their design research and investigation skills, and their professional executive practice.

Studying on the MEDes involves each student studying at three of the partners institutions during the five years of study. The first and second year of study are spent at the home institution, then the third year is spent abroad in one partner institution and the second year in another. In the final year the students return to their home institution to complete their Master degree. During their stay abroad each student follows the particular curriculum of the individual partner school. The studies take place in English or in the respective national language.

Every MEDes student starts their journey by being enrolled as a regular student at one of the institutions, which will be their home institution throughout the programme of study. Students must then apply to join the programme through their home institution, in compliance with that institution’s own rules. Once the student is accepted, placements are decided at the MEDes workshop, which happens annually and is hosted by a different partner institution each year.
